math makes me horny::

today i have finally started to put my hands onto sexiest program ever Max/MSP/Jitter. it is installed on pc number 11 in our classroom.

ok. the reason why i have gone patching in Max is that i have intended to use it for my first term project on brief  “Night Out”.  this assignment is very open-minded in terms of realization of the idea of how do i feel on my night out. i usually feel ‘sick’ not as if drinking myself into pig, but of others drinking themselves into pigs. the concept of my idea is to reflect my personal feelings amongst overenergetic/collapsing people striving for high-pitch fun at parties which i never enjoy apart from music delivery (sometimes) and playing myself away into abstract visuals. the connection between music and people is always obscured with blunt state of braincells which people has initiated to go slow-responsive with chemical downgrading liquids. i will explore my concept and ideas on “night out” in another post. now-my progress on Max.
..i made my first after tutorial patch today. i did follow step by step explanation of how to start writing and composing into Max/MSP working window a.k.a. Patcher. to begin with, Max/MSP is a graphical environment for music, audio and multimedia and it is a very complicated program designed for creating your own programs. it consists of three parts :
1] Max – a graphical programming environment that provides user interface, timing, communications, and MIDI support
2] MSP – for real-time audio synthesis and DSP
3] Jitter – for video and matrix data processing

today i did learn how to place objects and write messages into Patcher. in order to do so i need to open the Palette by double clicking into the Patcher.
palette
then i need to select appropriate object and plant it into my patcher. i can cut/copy, and paste objects, drag them across the patcher and resize them easily. as i am creating a network of patches and linking them up with patchcords it is important to keep structure tidy in order to monitor the building process. sometimes patcher can get overpoppulated with little objects cross stitched across the whole panel and can give you granny-lost-in-knitting-thread nightmares. sure thing that programmers and nerds are creaming over such mazes of beautiful digital vomit but, for amateurs such as me, it is doubtful i will experience complicated patterns at this stage as i am just starting from ground zero. to keep my patch tidy i can select the group of objects and align them with shortcut Ctrl+Y and also use segmented patch cords.
new objects i learned today::
[-] Toggle switch – it is been used lot to start and stop different behaviours of the patch.
[-] Object Box – i use object box by typing in words which load small programms which then are used to build larger ones.
[-] Metro object is a timing object Picture 2. it provides a metronome which sends out a message also called a bang message at regular intervals of 350 miliseconds. the bang message has a specific use within Max – it’s the message that tells many objects to do that thing you do.
[-] Random object such as this  Picture 3will generate a random number whenever we send it a bang. i need to create one
[-] Number object and link it to random obect’s outlet.  if i will connect this random number  object box to imovie object, it will interpret this number as pointed time to jumpt to in the film. when vjing i use random playback quite often, it gives very dizzy and nice effect on a sequence of a video.
if i need to know more information about each object i need to Alt+double click on object in Edit mode. it will open the help file which is, actually, full-functioning max patch. beside information on particular object in help file i can click on to reference page which gives a lot more  information on any object i want. here is the counter object help file:
Picture 8
[-] Counter object will count in between two numbers we write into the object box. it is important to add number object as it’s outputting message device which will display the value given at the time between those two numbers.
[-] Makenote object will generate notes.
[-] Noteout object is built in computer synthesizer which will play makenote object outcomming messages.
this combination of patches will sound sending scale repeating over again.

here is the bigger screen print of me recreating this simple beginners patch::

in order to take patcher out of edit mode and interact with it using mouse, i go to Menu/View/ Edit or use a shortcut Ctrl+E. the patch in a “locked” state means that i cannot edit any of the objects or text in the window. to go back to the edit mode and unlock the patch i will use the same shortcut.
after this first self-induction i decided to marry meself to Max/MSP and swap my food over with patches::peace data//
